At Maru we conduct community outreach meetings with rural communities to raise awareness on natural resource management and how communities can benefit from the activities carried out in this industry. Through this initiative many communities have been transformed as they realised that they can provide goods and services to protected areas next to them.
Maru facilitates relationship building between protected areas and communities living adjacent to them. In most cases, there has been conflict between protected areas management and rural communities. This is mainly because there was no proper engagement on natural resource management and benefits sharing. Through Maru’s intervention, park management and rural communities are managing natural resources together and sharing the benefits.
